Internationalism and the issues of globalisation are central themes running through this school's academic content.
Description
In 1902 the University of Birmingham was the first in the UK to teach business subjects. Today this teaching is centred in the Birmingham Business School which has just celebrated the centenary of business teaching at Birmingham. The School is located in a building reflecting this long tradition while offering cutting-edge 21st century facilities. ‘University House’ stands in its own extensive landscaped gardens adjacent to the main University campus. Built in 1908, the original building now houses staff offices and student social facilities, while a multi-million pound extension has just been completed with extensive learning and teaching facilities.
Birmingham Business School is part of the University of Birmingham so its students have access to the huge range of facilities, such as library, sporting and social, offered by the University as well as what is provided specifically for them within the School. The School is particularly proud of the Career Management and Support facilities that it provides specifically for its postgraduate students. The University is located only 3 kilometres from the city centre (Birmingham is the second city of the UK) on an extensive parkland campus. The University offers a range of accommodation for postgraduates with a guarantee scheme for international students.
We offer a wide range of MBA programmes, both full and part-time. Full-time programmes are 12 months long and there is also a Preliminary Year available for those not qualified for direct entry. Part-time programmes are taken over between 2 and 4 years and as well as being taught in Birmingham are also taught (by Birmingham faculty) in Singapore, Hong Kong and Mauritius. The programmes are structured around intensive one-week modules which are fully interchangeable amongst the four delivery locations. As well as the generalist programmes with their focus on international business, there are specialist programmes in International Banking and Finance (full-time) and Strategy and Procurement Management (part-time). Full-time bilingual programmes with a French or a Spanish business school are also offered. All our MBA programmes, in the UK and overseas, are accredited by the Association of MBA’s (AMBA), the recognised accrediting body.
Internationalism is a key theme that pervades what we do. International students were amongst our first intakes over a hundred years ago and this is a tradition we are proud to maintain. Our part-time programme is offered around the world attracting students from a wide range of countries – not just the ones in which the teaching is located. Each year we will usually have over 55 different countries represented on our programmes.
