The mind-map-strategy for RCs
1.Skim through the first paragraph.
Take your eyes off the screen.
2. Ask yourself the paragraph's "purpose" .
Purpose is always very, very brief.
Avoid paraphrasing the details.
3. Skim through the next paragraph.
Take your eyes off.
Ask yourself the paragraph's "purpose".
Link the purpose of the first paragraph with that of the second.
4. Keep repeating Step 3 for all the subsequent paragraphs.
Factors of a number are integers which can ‘divide’ the given number.
Multiples of a number are integers which are ‘divisible’ by the given number.
Example: 20
Factors: 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20
Multiples: 20, 40, 60…
60% of the learning comes from analyzing mistakes!
"Circular Reasoning"
- The fallacy of assuming a conclusion to be true, in reaching the conclusion.
A favorite GMAT CR fallacy.
Example: Jack cannot lie because Jack always tells the truth.
Example: A is true because B is true; B is true because A is true.
In DS, "no" can very well be an answer.
Question: Is X = 7?
(1): X is not a prime number.
(1) is sufficient. Because (1) leads to "No, X is not equal to 7".
In DS, an answer is achieved only when the answer is "consistent".
Q. Is X a multiple of 24?
(1) X is a multiple of 6.
(2) X is a multiple of 4.
X = 24 satisfies both (1) and (2), leads to "Yes".
X = 12 satisfies both (1) and (2), leads to "No".
"Inconsistent". Hence, insufficient. Answer is E.
Percentage change:
[(New Value-Old Value)/ Old Value] x 100
Please note: the denominator has "old value".
A sentence in English can end in just 3 ways: period, question-mark, or exclamation mark!
Practice RCs, everyday! The skill will help you in all sections and question types!!
On the verbal section, be cautious when you see an answer choice with "extreme" emotion.
Answer choices with "moderate" tonality have a higher probability of being correct.
1-week gap in prep hurts your progress by 3-weeks.
Jack wishes that he was an athlete. : Incorrect Jack wishes that he were an athlete. : Correct A subjunctive mood construction - (wish + plural form of verb)

Don't exhaust official material early- it's a common mistake. Save it for the last few weeks.
