Scholarships in India

Several scholarships are available in India for financially helping the students to attain higher education. These scholarships have played a prominent role in enhancing the standard of living and thinking of Indian students who hail from deprived sections of the society and even those who crave to pursue courses that are not available in India. These scholarships are meant for high school, graduation, masters, post graduation and even research. All of these scholarships play a pivotal role in the development of the individual. Few of the important scholarships in India are as follows:

Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme 2015 – 2016
These scholarships are meant for the economically deprived students of the minority section of the society who do not have the necessary funding for pursuing higher studies. The scholarships are awarded by the State Government/UT Administration. Under the 12th Five year plan, 60,000 such scholarships were awarded.

Post-Matric Scholarship for Students Belonging To The Minority Communities
The scholarship is provided to the meritorious students from the minority communities of India. It follows the 15 Point Program for the Welfare of Minorities of 2006. It includes private higher secondary school and college education along with the vocational courses in the Industrial Training Institutes. It is necessary for the students to secure more than 50% grade in their examination and their parent’s income should not exceed Rs 2 lakh.

University Grants Commission Scholarship
These include scholarships, fellowships and research awards. These awards include Maulana Azad National Fellowship For Minority Students, Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC/ST Candidate, Post Doctoral Fellowship to SC/ST Candidates, Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology, Emeritus Fellowship, Raman Fellowship for Post Doctoral Research for Indian Scholars in USA, Major Research Project (MRP), Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences, National Fellowship for OBC Candidate and others.

Jawaharlal Nehru Scholarship for Doctoral Studies
This award is available to Indian nationals who are pursuing their PhD in India along with nationals of other Asian countries, pursuing their PhD in India. The awards are available in the field of Indian History and Civilization, Sociology, Economics, Studies on Jawaharlal Nehru, Engineering Sciences, Biological Sciences, Computer Sciences and others. The award includes RS 12,000 per month of allowance along with RS 15,000 allowance for study material and tours in the country.
