Working in Singapore ensures international exposure and overall development in terms of growth and value addition of the individual. The seasoned entrepreneurs and talented individuals are drawn through the creatively designed immigration policies of Singapore government. Have a look at the work permit rules and visa types issued by the Singapore government.

Work Permit Schemes for Entrepreneurs and Foreign Nationals

The main kind of work permit needed for individuals who want to work in Singapore and also for the employers looking forward to recruit the foreign nationals, is known as the Employment Pass (EP). There is no annual cap on the number of work permits that can be issued by the immigration department. It is mandatory for the fixed monthly salary to be more than $3,300. It is also needed for the applicant to be a degree holder from a reputed university. The EP is initially issued for 1-2 years (at the discretion of authorities). It can be renewed for as long as the applicant works for the company. There is no quota official system for EPs. The EP holders can later apply for permanent residence in Singapore.

Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass)
These work permits are needed by owners of newly incorporated (or to be incorporated) Singapore companies, who are craving to relocate to Singapore to start their own business venture. It is issued for a year and can be easily renewed for as long as the business stands feasible. The holders of Entrepreneur Pass can apply for permanent residence in due time.

Personalised Employment Pass (PEP)
In this work visa variety, the applicant does not need to stay with only employer for the entire work duration in Singapore. Thus, they can switch work places and they do not have to apply for new work visa every time they do so. The only disadvantage of holding this visa is that one cannot start with his/her own company in Singapore. Hence, a third-party employer is necessary. It is non-renewable and is issued only for three years. The holders of this visa can apply for permanent residence in due course of time.

S Pass
It is meant for mid-skilled employees who are able to show that they earn a fixed monthly salary of at least $2,200. They are based on the employer’s quota eligibility and applicant’s qualifications. Candidates do not need to have a degree from a reputed university for it. Instead they can have a technical diploma which is also acceptable.

Miscellaneous Work Pass
It is basically issued for foreigners who want to visit Singapore for short-term assignments. For example, if they are related to events such as any seminar, conference, workshop, gathering or talk. It is also meant for a foreign journalist, reporter or an accompanying crew member. It is a short term visa and each application is considered on the basis of its own merit and there is no quota system.
