Overview of ISB

The Indian School of Business is a private business school in India with campuses at Mohali and Hyderabad. It is a non-profit organization. Two senior executives of McKinsey & Company had founded this school. The board governing ISB included both Indian and non-Indian businessmen.

The 2015 Financial Times Global MBA Rankings has ranked ISB at the 33rd position. It was one of the first schools in Indian sub-continent that had been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Since it does not offer a diploma and degree course, it has not opted for accreditation with the All India Council for Technical Education. In 2008, it was one of the youngest schools to be featured in the global rankings of the world business schools when it bagged the 20th position.

A group of businessmen and academicians had started ISB in 1996. The Co-founders Rajat Gupta and Anil Kumar, who hailed from McKinsey & Company, started the school. Rajat Gupta recruited US leaders while Anil Kumar recruited top-Indian leaders. Formal partnerships were established with the international business schools like Wharton and Kellogg. The first chairperson of the school was Rajat Gupta, who was succeeded by Adi Godrej in 2011. 260-acre campus of ISB was sanctioned by the state government in 1996. The foundation stone was first laid in Hyderabad in 1999. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had inaugurated it in 1999.

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a non-profit membership organization that accredits member schools and their programs similar to EQUIS or AMBA has accredited ISB. It has not been accredited by the AICTE.
