Overview of ISB

The Indian School of Business is a private business school in India with campuses at Mohali and Hyderabad. It is a non-profit organization. Two senior executives of McKinsey & Company had founded this school. The board governing ISB included both Indian and non-Indian businessmen.

The 2015 Financial Times Global MBA Rankings has ranked ISB at the 33rd position. It was one of the first schools in Indian sub-continent that had been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Since it does not offer a diploma and degree course, it has not opted for accreditation with the All India Council for Technical Education. In 2008, it was one of the youngest schools to be featured in the global rankings of the world business schools when it bagged the 20th position.

History
A group of businessmen and academicians had started ISB in 1996. The Co-founders Rajat Gupta and Anil Kumar, who hailed from McKinsey & Company, started the school. Rajat Gupta recruited US leaders while Anil Kumar recruited top-Indian leaders. Formal partnerships were established with the international business schools like Wharton and Kellogg. The first chairperson of the school was Rajat Gupta, who was succeeded by Adi Godrej in 2011. 260-acre campus of ISB was sanctioned by the state government in 1996. The foundation stone was first laid in Hyderabad in 1999. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had inaugurated it in 1999.

Accreditation
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a non-profit membership organization that accredits member schools and their programs similar to EQUIS or AMBA has accredited ISB. It has not been accredited by the AICTE.

Campuses
ISB has two campuses: Hyderabad and Mohali

Hyderabad: Spread across 260 acres, the campus was set in 2001. Academic centre is the heart of the campus which has faculty offices, classrooms and theatres as well as a 500-seat auditorium. Four student villages are also present in the campus, with each able to accommodate 130-210 students.

Mohali: Academic sessions started in this campus in 2012. Along with short-term executive programs, it offers the Post-Graduate Program. Self sustainable, the campus is spread across 70 acres.

Courses offered
Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP): It is a one year, full-time residential program offered by ISB. It is known for its rigor and depth and has achieved 33rd rank in the 20015 rankings.

Post-Graduate Programme in Management for senior executives (PGPMAX): Meant for senior executives, it is a part-time management program which continues for 15 months. It is equivalent to Executive MBA program and is designed in such a way that the working life of the senior executives does not get hampered.

ISB Biocon Certificate Programme for Business Analytics: It is a one-year program in Business Analytics which is in collaboration with Biocon. It is a combination of technology aided learning platform and classroom teaching.

Management Programme for Family Business (MFAB): It is especially designed for the younger generation which needs grooming for their family businesses.

Centre for Executive Education (CEE): This is an executive level program offered for mid-career professionals under three varieties.
• Open programs: These are short-duration courses which are focused on the industry sectors.
• General Management programs: It is designed for mid-career professionals for leadership roles.
• Custom designed programs: It is for specific industries.

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM): It was introduced in 2011 and comprises of 4-5 years. Scholars in this program can pursue their independent research but they need to be in close consultation with their guides so that they can get the approval for their dissertation from the committee and continue to work on them. The research strengths of the faculty are the core of the program, making it engage with the cutting edge research which is highly relevant in this field. The program is academically very rigorous and challenging, meeting the dynamic and ever-changing needs of the business.

Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP): It is one of the coveted and unique programs that help under-graduate students to gain a fresh perspective in management studies. It also makes students eligible for the one year Post Graduate Program (PGP), subject to completion of work experience comprising of 20 months. The program has been designed with the contribution of world-class faculty and mentors who know what leadership-enhancement is and how important role it plays.
