History

The North Carolina State University’s economics, business and management education dates back to the early 1900s. The University again offered undergraduate degrees in management and accounting post a hiatus, due to the depression-era that continued until the 1970s. The Master of Science in Management program was introduced in 1976. A College of Management was established at NC State due to the efforts led by the team of academic visionaries. The MBA program was first introduced in 2002.

Core Strengths of the School

The School’s focus is on ‘learning by doing’, wherein the students are encouraged to work on real-world projects in real-world settings. Such an experience prepares the students for their upcoming work life after the completion of the course. This ‘real’ experience is the School’s USP. The School pledges to develop the skills of the students and equip them with tools that would help them evolve as successful business leaders.

The School’s technology focused curriculum helps students to explore various options using latest technology tools, thus tapping their innovative potential. Technology is integrated into the core curriculum of the program as technology has become integral to every industry today. Hence, technology has been blended into traditional courses like economics and marketing as well.

Uniqueness in MBA Pedagogy

The interactive experience of working with peers in groups instills essential teamwork skills in the students. The small class size of the program fosters personalized attention and access to faculty. The class discussions regarding case studies develop a student’s business acumen as he is exposed to different perspectives of the business problem. Class simulations and team projects further develop business communication skills of the students.

The School offers the students the flexibility to choose electives based on their interests and career goals. The innovative curriculum, world-class faculty and the School’s strong bond with the leading global businesses are the reasons that stand in the favor of the school.

As a part of the MBA program, all students are encouraged to indulge themselves in Global Immersion programs. There are study abroad trips to Beijing, London, Dubai, and Munich planned for the students to help them understand the intricacies of business in an international setting.

The Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) has workshops that train participants to adapt themselves to the requirements of the industry and embrace innovative management approach while resolving business issues.

Technology Entrepreneurship Commercialization (TEC) trains students on innovative entrepreneurial processes using advanced technology and commercialization methodology. Students interested in pursuing their own venture receive the guidance from the seasoned professionals and service providers, and collaborate with like-minded people to achieve their objectives.

The Jenkins Graduate School of Management, which is a part of the Poole College of Management, is located in Raleigh. Raleigh is considered to be a renowned centre for research, industry, technology, culture and education. It is ranked 4th in the Best Big Cities List declared by the Money Magazine. The Research Triangle Park, which is a part of The Triangle, is spread over 7000 acre and has more than 125 organizations, thus proving Raleigh to be a thriving community of young professionals. Raleigh has a lot of greenery, which adds to the beauty of the landscape. The parks, beaches and mountains are weekend getaways for the students. The Triangle is the centre for entertainment and recreational activities with festival celebrations occupying the limelight during festival seasons.

CAREER SUPPORT

The Jenkins Career Management Center (CMC) provides immense support to the students by following a customized approach to develop each student’s Individualized Career Management Plan (ICMP) that is in alignment with his goals and strengths, thus helping them create their own personal brand. The career coaches help in identifying the target industries and developing a winning resume that showcases the strengths of the students. The career coaches provide career counseling to the students, so that they are able to take the correct decisions for their careers. Additionally, they also help in efficient job hunt strategies, effective ways of marketing the student, cracking job interviews and providing resources and tools for entrepreneurial ventures.
